Should I create an organization?
« on: January 03, 2010, 10:55:03 PM »
A few levels ago, the game told me I was able to create a company. Is this something advisable for new players? If not now, then when should I think about doing it?

Best to hold off and read about company ownership for a while.

Companies are difficult to run and will lose money unless you know how to operate them correctly.

Don't create one yet. Save your money first, then start thinking about it.

when you do buy/create a company, make sure you use an org though to do it. It'll let you keep working and pay for itself in a month with the hard worker medal.

Also note the difference(s) between Organizations (which you mention in the thread subject) and Companies (which your question was about).

Orgs can own companies but they're not the same thing... They are sort of like proxy citizens, but Orgs don't work, produce goods etc. Each Org does give you an additional 20 inventory spaces, which can be very helpful and a big money saver through buying food/weaps in bulk when the price is right. Orgs let you gift yourself without having to ask a friend to do it. You can also vote up articles with any Orgs you own. I think they're good to have once you can afford it, but not before buying say a house for example.

Companies OTOH require raw materials (which you must buy) and employees (which you must pay and monitor). Licenses can add to your costs. It's possible to make money but it may well cost you money. I would say hold off and read up on it first. If and when you do choose to own a company, buying an existing company may be a better idea than creating a new one.

Create an org.  Iamnameless explains it well.

Before you own a company, you need 20g to start or slightly less if you buy used.  Then you'll need 5g for start-up costs (raw materials, new employee ramp up, etc.)  I would further recommend an additional 20g so you can time your product's sale for when the market is at a high.

Try to buy a company instead of create a company, because when you create a company, your gold dissapears, but if you buy a company, it goes to someone else. If everybody creates a company, then at some point we'll run out of gold. :(

Also, a lot of the time, you can get a company for less than it'd take you to create a new one (20 G). You can rename the company to whatever you wish. :)

Dont buy just any company.  Buying an iron company in Nevada will never make money because of it being a low iron region.

Companies outside of the US make more because every American wants to own a company.

Yes, I know. You do have to look at the company before buying it.
