How-To: Week 1 (And Beyond!)
« on: September 03, 2009, 10:12:39 PM »
eRepublik underwent a massive update on July 5, so the majority of the following information is incorrect.  Please check back later.!
-- Herr Vootsman 7/8/2010

The first week of eRepublik can be a trying time for any new citizen.  Just know that there is plenty of support here to help you find your way.  If you have any questions, feel free to make a thread or ask around, we are all here to help :D

Note: An important thing to know about eRepublik is that your ability to participate in different aspects of society relies on the amount of experience points you have gained.  Each of the things we have listed here will help you gain experience and help your citizen progress.

Day 1

1) Upload an avatar.
http://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/edit/profile
Nobody likes to look at the default picture. This will help you make friends, and it allows you to express yourself.  Some members (like me), have chosen to be themselves, others role play...the choice is yours.  Do make sure you choose an appropriate picture, as your account can be frozen by the admin if you don't.

2) Get a job at the job market.
http://www.erepublik.com/en/human-resources/country-24-domain-all-skill-1
Just like in real life, your survival depends on your ability to buy the resources that are necessary for living in this world. It is the most important thing for you to do when you first start off. Make sure to work for a Q1 company because your wellness will suffer if you do not.

3) Work.
My places --> Company
Your character doesn't work on its own. You have to click the button.  Make sure you do this daily, because if you do you get a hard worker award.  Do keep in mind that if you ever find yourself in a job where you cannot work due to lack of resources/money, you can immediately quit and find a new job.

4) Buy Food.
http://www.erepublik.com/en/market/country-24-industry-1-quality-0.
It is essential that you eat food. If you do not eat, you lose 5 wellness per day on top of any work or training you do and will eventually die.  Check out a Wellness Calculator if you are interested in seeing the difference between the food qualities on your wellness.

5) Visit Meals On Wheels.
Meals on Wheels will assist you in getting past your first trying days and help get you hooked up with the community.

6) Build Up Your Strength.
Army ---> Train
http://www.erepublik.com/en/my-places/army
This is the way you build the strength necessary to defend your country. If you train long and hard enough, you could eventually join the Army or the Marines.  You can do this once per day.

7) Get involved.
Talk to experienced players, read the new player's guides, ask questions, and explore the Wiki. The more you know about eRepublik, the more fun it will be.

Day 2+  (until you hit level 5, or 25 exp points)

1) Work.  You gain 1 exp per day for working, as well as money and a notch in your belt towards your first hard workers award (and the 5 gold that comes with it)

2) Train.  You also get 1 exp per day for training.  Soon enough you will hit 5 strength and gain your first (of many to come) Super Soldier award.

3) Make sure you have at least one food of any quality in your inventory.  You get 1 exp for eating every night.

4) Continue expanding your eRepublik knowledge by reading the media and the eUS forums

5) Consider applying for a Mentor.   Through this program you can gain not only someone who can use their experience to guide you through new parts of erepublik in a hands on, 1 on 1 way.  You also gain a friend.  Not a bad deal at all.

Upon hitting level 5 (and for the rest of your long and fruitful eRepublik life)

Congratulations, you can now fight for our country in wars.  You may want to check out a more comprehensive fight guide if you have the inclination to, but here are some basics:

1)  Move to California.  This is basically required in order to be an active fighter for the eUSA.  To move - get a moving ticket, go to your profile, and find the link that says "change" near your current location.   If you do not have the money to purchase the moving ticket to do so, contact the USA Welcoming Committee For assistance
2)  Get your wellness to 40 (Do not buy wellness packs to do this).  The Gifting Exchange may be willing to help with this process.
3)  Buy weaponry if youd like (but do not get weapons higher than Q1, or one star)
4)  Find the correct battlefield via the DoD Civilian Orders
5)  Go to the battle field ordered, and Fight!
6)  Heal.  This restores 50 wellness and can be done once per day that you have fought.
7)  Never fight after healing.
8)  From now on, you should fight until your wellness lies between 40 and 50, then heal.  This should amount to 4-5 fights daily.  Never fight below 40 wellness.  Your resting wellness should be between 90 and 100.
9)  Always make sure you work at your highest wellness point for the day, as this makes you most productive, which means youll be working your way towards a raise sooner :D

Other things to do:

-Help out the Pony Express.  This is a group of volunteers who simply vote up the articles that the eUS government needs to get publicized quickly.  It doesnt take much time, and your vote could be the one that helps the eUS spread important messages to its citizens!

- Consider taking classes at North American University.  Meet some of the best and brightest players as they guide you through some of the more interesting aspects of erepublik in our own player built online university.

-Recruit your friends.  Erepublik is a social strategy game, and only gets better with more people!

- Check out other volunteer activities, the game only gets more fun as you find more ways to get involved!

Helpful Links:

eGobbas Map-  A great tool to build a visual interpretation of the world.

Erepublik.ws- Lots of useful calculators, to help better understand such things as your wellness, productivity, and battle damage... as well as other goodies

Erepublik Official Wiki -  A nearly overwhelming amount of information at your fingertips about all aspects of the game.

Props to any other threads/writings I ninjad work from in order to save time in writing this, such as Medys.  This thread will be constantly under revision - so if you have any suggestions for any, feel free to post them or PM them to me.  Also, this is basically an open draft.  Any mod feel free to update/change anything that needs to be changed.

added that and a couple other things.  Any and all other suggestions are appreciated.

I tried to cover a lot of other topics that are posted on the WC board, without under-playing anything too important. shrug

Extremely thorough Choc. Would it be worth putting in something about the gifting exchange? Besides that I can't think of anything off-hand.

I just recently began to be able to fight; but I lack the funds to purchase any type of fire arms, so my damage is really weak (avg of 6). Are there any programs that I would qualify for or anything I can do to help myself?

I found my source! :) James Strife came to Congress to update us on Meals on Wheels. White House Press Secretary mjdiv wanted a link to include in an upcoming Press Release. James Strife replied with:

Here's the link mjdiv.
http://tinyurl.com/moweus

See the date? If you want, check with James Strife to see if that's still the proper link and/or if that's actually the same darn form as the eusmeals one. ;D

I love this job!

First of all, man... use that moving ticket I just sent you with the Welcoming Committee to move to a fortress state - either CA or FL. Then, fight in a battle once, then heal at the hospital. To get to the hospital from the battlefield, just click RETURN TO BATTLEFIELD and you will see a link near teh top of the page if you are in CA or FL.

Akk any questions at anytime!

Mentorship is back up and running.

Maybe you should un-cross-out that portion... I don't know if people have to apply to get mentors or not, but if they do, get a link for that from Cesog fillireb. ;)

This forum topic hasn't been updated since December, can someone from the Welcoming Committee make sure it takes into account all the new rules/changes since then?

Just a minor point but I noticed it still says that you get 1 EXP for training daily, when the rule for a while now is that you get 2 EXP for training (and 0 EXP for eating).

Anyhow, here's the only newbie guide (instructions for Day 1 and beyond) I've seen so far that DOES take into effect the new stuff, could be useful as a reference for revising this forum topic as need be:
